Premises Assessments are a key component of the Agsafe Industry Standards certification process. They provide an independent, evidence-based assessment of how a business manages its responsibilities across the safe handling, storage and transport of agricultural and veterinary (AgVet) chemicals.
Conducted by experienced Agsafe Field Officers, each assessment examines both documented systems and day-to-day site practices to determine whether a business meets the requirements of the Agsafe Industry Standards. Assessments form part of the Agsafe Certification cycle, supporting ongoing compliance and continuous improvement.

Assessment process
Every Premises Assessment follows a structured process that ensures assessments are conducted consistently and in accordance with the Agsafe Certification Framework.
1. Prepare for your assessment
Ensure relevant policies, procedures, registers and supporting documentation are available for review prior to or during the assessment.
2. Site assessment
Your Agsafe Field Officer visits your site to inspect facilities, observe operational practices and discuss systems and procedures with relevant personnel.
3. Assessment findings
Following the assessment, you will receive a report outlining the assessment findings, including areas of compliance and any corrective actions that may be required.
4. Address corrective actions
Where required, your business has the opportunity to implement corrective actions and provide evidence that identified issues have been addressed.
5. Certification outcome
Once any required corrective actions have been completed and assessment requirements have been satisfied, certification is determined in accordance with the Agsafe Certification Framework.
Preparing for your Premises Assessment
Good preparation helps ensure your assessment runs efficiently. Before your Agsafe Field Officer visits your site, it's important to ensure relevant documentation is current and operational practices align with the requirements of the Agsafe Industry Standards.
Documentation
Ensure policies, procedures, licences, chemical registers and other supporting records are current and readily available.
Chemical management
Review Safety Data Sheets, chemical storage, segregation practices and environmental controls to confirm they are current and effectively implemented.
Safety systems
Check that required signage, placarding, fire protection equipment and emergency information are in place and maintained.
Staff competency
Ensure relevant staff training records are up to date and that employees understand the procedures relevant to their roles.
Transport & emergency preparedness
Review transport procedures, emergency plans, spill response equipment and first aid arrangements to ensure they remain current and accessible.

What we assess
During the assessment, Agsafe Field Officers evaluate how your business manages chemical safety, compliance and operational risk. This includes reviewing documentation, inspecting facilities and observing how systems and procedures are implemented in practice.
Documentation & chemical compliance
We assess chemical registers, Safety Data Sheets and other records to verify that legislative and operational requirements are being effectively managed.
Safe storage & site safety
We assess hazardous chemical storage, segregation practices, site safety, equipment integrity and environmental controls to ensure risks are being appropriately managed.
Fire & transport compliance
We assess fire protection measures, ignition source controls and transport procedures to confirm compliance with the relevant requirements of the Agsafe Industry Standards.
Emergency preparedness & workplace health and safety
We assess emergency plans, spill response procedures, first aid capability, staff training and workplace health and safety practices to ensure the site is prepared to respond effectively to incidents.
Maintaining certification
Certification is supported through an ongoing assessment cycle that helps verify continued compliance with the Agsafe Industry Standards. Certified businesses are expected to maintain current documentation, address corrective actions within agreed timeframes and notify Agsafe of significant operational changes where required.
Where certification lapses, is suspended or withdrawn, certification materials, including certificates and approved digital certification assets, must be removed from display and business communications until certification is reinstated.
