Agsafe’s Product Stewardship Week 2026

What is Product Stewardship Week?

Product Stewardship Week is a new, annual initiative led by Agsafe that celebrates the role of shared responsibility in managing agricultural products safely and sustainably. From chemical manufacturers to importers, ag retailers, farmers, and recyclers—we’re all part of the lifecycle of agricultural products.

This week brings visibility to the systems, partnerships, and programs that help us manage those products responsibly, reduce waste, and support a more sustainable future for Australian agriculture.

Why it matters

Agricultural product stewardship isn’t just about ticking boxes—it’s about protecting people, land, and water while building a more circular economy.

Agsafe’s stewardship programs support:

Environmental sustainability by reducing chemical and plastic waste

Workplace safety through certified training and handling practices

Regulatory compliance with state, national, and packaging obligations

Whole-of-supply-chain accountability, from manufacture to disposal

By taking action together, we’re creating a cleaner, safer future for Australian agriculture.

STEWARDSHIP

[styoo-uhd-shuhp] noun

Stewardship is an ethos that embodies the responsible planning and utilisation of resources. For the plant science industry, stewardship principles guide the responsible management of products and services using a whole-of-lifecycle approach.

Meet our programs

Our four national product stewardship programs play a vital role in supporting sustainable agricultural practices across the country

More than 47 million containers collected and recycled

Agsafe’s flagship stewardship program enables safe disposal of triple-rinsed chemical drums, recycling them into fence posts, irrigation pipes and new chemical drums to support a circular economy.

Australia’s first industry-led, not-for-profit recycling program

bagMUSTER offers a dedicated solution for single-use agricultural bags, with 100% of bags processed within Australia and backed by retailers, manufacturers, importers and farmers across the supply chain.

Over 1 million litres of AgVet chemicals safely disposed of

ChemClear helps remove unwanted AgVet chemicals from farms and sheds. All collected chemicals are treated using EPA-compliant incineration, ensuring safe and environmentally responsible disposal.

1,217 businesses supported through Agsafe training

Member Services provides training, assessments and compliance support to help AgVet chemical retailers and distributors understand their regulatory obligations —keeping staff, customers, and communities safe.
